The Orland FFA Chapter will be holding its FFA Banquet on April 16, 2012 in the multi-prupose room building. This years theme is Blue & Gold! Invitations will be sent out soon so please RSVP.

Orland FFA Advisors Anna Canon and Jerrod Lloyd along with Student Teacher Kelly Hoppin will be taking 24 enthusiastic members to Fresno California to experience the excitement of the four days of the State FFA Convention.
The Orland FFA's Forestry team A and Tony Whipple wins the Shasta Cascade Forestry Challenge. The event was held in Redding California on February 11, 2010 during the Shasta Cascade Logging Conference. The Shasta College Natural Resource program hosted a quality program that challenged the teams with wood identification and charateristics where Orland's own Tony Whipple won the 2nd high Individual award, map reading, acreage, log scaling and a team event. The team event was won by the Orland B team and the Orland A team took 3rd. Tony Whipple won the High Individual Award.
The Orland A team consists of Tony Whipple, Keith Bruce, and Alejandro Enriquez.
The Orland B team consists of Jeff Askeland, Beau Chandler, and Dominic Matteucci.

Our 7th Annual Rib Feed was a huge success! We could not have done it without YOU! Thank you to all of you who purchase tickets to eat, drink, raffle, and dessert. Thank you to all who donated raffle items, their time to work, cook, and clean. And a huge thank you to our members and officers who make this possible. Orland and Glenn County is such a wonderful place to be from and to call home. We are so blessed to be a part of this community. Our Future Farmer of America Chapter has been a member of this community for 80 years and will continue to be an integral part of this terrific community for another 80 years!

The Advisory Council is sponsoring the 7th Annual All-American Rib Feed at the Glenn County Fairgrounds on Saturday, January 30th.
A variety of beef and pork ribs with beans, bread, and salad will be available for dining in (a winning raffle prizes), or take-out.

The Orland FFA is selling Christmas Tree Sales through December 18th. The location is at the Prickly Pear Nursery on the corner of 8th and Highway 32. Students will be available to show you some beautiful Douglas and Noble Firs from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm every weekday and weekends from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. They will also load the tree in your pick-up. (Unfortunately they cannot tie a tree to your car).

The Orland High School Agriculture Business class created a proposal for Orland FFA members to be allowed to wear graduation sashes and cords for our graduation ceremonies.
The process started at the committee level and evolved to a School Board unanimous decision to allow qualifying Orland FFA Seniors to wear a sash, cord or both at this year's and future graduation ceremonies. FFA is now ranked among the elite acronyms along with CSF and AVID.
For the 2009 graduating class 11 seniors met the criteria of grades, SAE activities, record books, and enrollment. They were: Shauni Arano, Sara Gutierrez, Kyle Keyawa, Jose Mendoza, Sami Mullen, Haley Olivarez, Kaila Raygoza, Jessica Silviera, Cody Snyder, Cody Sudberry and Charlene Brady
Jose Mendoza won the Superior Region Proficiency in Agriculture Mechanics Repair and Maintenance Placement and the Superior Region Profieciency in Environmental Science and Natural Resources.
Jose's projects include a placement job at MerryBelle Farms working in alfalfa during the summer months. He also recently included time spent at the Range Camp in Half Moon Bay and was the founding member of the OHS FFA Forestry Team.
Jose plans to attend Humboldt State University in the fall and major in Range Management
Shauni Arano won the Superior Region Proficiency in Landscape Management Placement and the Superior Region Profieciency in Home and Community Development Placement.
She has been working for Orland High School Agriculture Department improving the Greenhouse facility for the past two years. She has turned this project into her senior project for OHS as well as productive SAE's. Her Landscape Management Proficiency qualified as one of the top three State finalists. She will be competing at the State Leadership Conference in April for the recognition.
Shauni plans to
join the military after high school. After she serves her country she hopes to attend college to learn more about plants and business so she can meld those two together to do what she enjoys for her career.

The Orland FFA Chapter is in hiatus for the summer. The newly installed officer team will be meeting during July to plan the school year for 2008-2009. Be prepared for an exciting year with new activities planned!

The 2007-2008 Orland FFA Officer Team spent 2 1/2 quality days at Lake Siskiyou planning the year for their chapter and building team skills that they will use throughout the next year.
The plan is for a great year with the theme of "SURVIVE THE CHALLENGE!'

The Hometown Scholarship Fundraiser being held in conjunction with NORTH STATE MOTORS in Orland is at a close. Thank you to all the people who purchased tickets to support our members. If you did not get your t-shirt you can still drop by NORTH STATE MOTORS and pick it up.
The funds earned will help the building of the California FFA Center in Galt at the state level. At the local level the funds will assist members to attend leadership conferences, career development events (judging days), and our annual parent-member awards banquet at the end of the year.
The community of Orland has been extremely instrumental in supporting our chapter and giving outstanding opportunities to our agricultural youth.
FFA members are asked to turn in their ticket stubs.

Shawn Cooper, 2005 OHS graduate, received her American FFA Degree at the 79th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 28th, 2006. She proudly represented the Orland FFA Chapter. She is currently a sophomore at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Her FFA accomplishments included Chapter Officer, North Valley Section Officer, and a Superior Region Officer. Her SAE was market sheep and agri-business work experience.
