1st Ever Pumpkin Patch

(10/19/2011)
The Orland FFA members have been doing an incredible job planning and preparing for their first ever pumpkin patch. The pumpkins were planted by 6 or 7 students this last July, watered all summer by Mr. Lloyd, and picked by all the classes in the agriculture program at Orland High School. This week kindergarteners and 2nd graders as well as a couple of pre-schools have been visiting the school farm where the OHS Ag students have prepared eight different fun and educational stations for the students to rotate through. Every student, parent, and teacher gets a pumpkin on the visit to the 'pumpkin patch' and then a tractor ride back to the farm. A big THANK YOU goes out to Seeds By Design for donating the four varieties of pumpkin seeds and broom corn for this wonderful community event. Also to the Orland Unified School District for providing transportation at no cost to the children. And finally to the Orland FFA members who are working their hearts out to provide a quality event (and pumpkin goodies for the kids). To view photos of the event visit the Photo Gallery!!!

Chapter officer Leadership Conference

(09/27/2011)
Recently the Orland FFA Chapter officers participated in the Regional Chapter Officer Leadership Conference. In the Conference each officer developed their leadership skills. They attended daily workshops, and in these workshops the officers learned about how to motivate their chapter members to work to together to achieve a common goal. Not only did they learn to motivate members, they also learned to solve conflicts between members. The officers also became more of a team at this conference because in their workshops they worked together in skits, to show that they actually learned to motivate people and resolve problems. The Superior Region did a fantastic job hosting this wonderful conference.
