The West Valley FFA Chapter is located in the Superior Region and is known as the program of choice in Shasta County. West Valley is a four "A" school: Academics,Activities,Athletics, and Agriculture
West Valley currently has three agricultural instructors. Areas of instruction focus on ag mechanics, animal science, and nursery / landscaping. Located on the school site is the Bry Walther Memorial Farm. This four acre laboratory features a 120' * 60' livestock barn, beef facilities, two greenhouses, a shade house, a full sun nursery, a rose pruning lab, 50 mandarin trees, and a crops area. The ag mechanics shop encompasses almost 3,000 square feet of space and has 12 mig welders, 10 arc stations, 12 oxy stations, and a plasma cutter.
Projects on Campus hve consisted of welding weight racks, constructing an ag lab, growing pumpkins for students at two feeder schools, growing trees for the Forest service, growing bedding plants for the spring plant sale, poinsettias, raising hogs and sheep, and breaking cattle for a local rancher.
West Valley FFA is typically the largest group at the Shasta District Fair with approximately 50 hogs, 20 sheep and 12 steers. In order to exhibit at the fair, students are required to attend six of the nine FFA meetings, one occuring each month.
West Valley FFA participates in Career Development Events (CDE), attends leadership conferences, and serves the community all year. Popular activities are Parlimentary Procedure and judging teams in the areas of Livestock, Fruit Trees, and Nursery. These teams travel throughout California to places such as Tulelake, Chico State, UC Davis, Cal Poly, Modesto Junior College, Butte College, and Shasta College. Each year members represent the chapter at State Finals in Fresno and San Luis Obispo.
