Why did you join FFA?

I thought it would be a good idea to join my first year of high school. After seeing the 8th grade Ag Days, I thought that it would be cool. I tried it, and I really love it. I also am friends with Olivia Harris, and when she won State Creed Speaking, I thought that I would like to get some money stored away for college someday. It seemed like a really good opportunity and so far, it has been a blast.

What has been your most challenging FFA experience?

My most challenging experience so far has been Creed Speaking. I am terrified of public speaking. When I first started saying the Creed in front of class, I was so afraid of messing up in front of all those people. As we progress, though, I seem to be more and more confident in my public speaking skills. FFA has really helped me to overcome my "stage fright."

Who has had the greatest impact on your life?

The person who has had the greatest impact on my life would probably be my grandma. She practically raised me for the first eight to ten months of my life. My mom was still in college and my grandma volunteered to keep me during the day. She has been one of the most helpful people as I am growing to just talk to. She is able to work out almost any problem with me and I am forever grateful.

If you had a million dollars, what would you do with it?

If I had one million dollars, I would store away 3/4 for my future, being college, and donate a quarter to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Give Kids the World. College seems to be getting more and more expensive as the years go by, so it would be wonderful to have as much saved for it as I can. When my brother, Alex, had cancer, the Make-A-Wish Foundation sponsored a "Wish Trip" for him. He chose to go to Disney World in Orlando, Florida, and stay at a non-profit organization called Give Kids the World. We all had a fabulous time and I would like to give them something back for all the help that they have given to kids with terminal diseases and even non-terminal diseases like Alex had. (In November 2009, Alex will be considered cured of cancer...he is healthy as a horse and doing better than ever since he has been off-treatment! Praise the Lord!)

Final thought

As a final thought, I will just say that I am so happy that I chose to be in FFA. It's been a real learning experience for me and I am certain it will better my future. It's been a great ride and I can't wait to keep growing in everything I have learned. Ag has really been an amazing choice for a class. Mr. Nutter has been a big help in class and in the CDE's and I know that upcoming freshmen will have a great time with him as their teacher.
