Why did you join FFA?

I did not choose FFA, FFA chose me. I was recruited, swept along just like a lot of other innocent eighth graders. I was tempted by the prospect of little homework and scholarship mony. I had no idea what to expect. When I got to ag, however, I relized just how cool a program I had become a part of. I stuck with ag  because I found that FFA is more than farming, it is the largest industry inthe world with an enormous future. My grandfather was also in the FFA and I know I am making him proud by following in his footsteps.

What has been your most challenging FFA experience?

My most challenging FFA experience has been memorizing the FFA Creed. I find memorizing and reciting difficult. Between memorization, walking, talking, and using hand gestures, I felt overrun by things to do.  However, I overcame my fears and went on to become the Illinois State Creed Speaking CDE. It just goes to show how hard work can pay off.

Who has had the greatest impact on your life?

I looked at this question and skipped it at first. How do I choose just one person who has had an impact on my life? I think now that my mom has had a tremendous impact on my life. She was there from day one and has been here for all the days after. Every time I missed my mailing deadline for a speech or scholarship, she was there driving it where it needed to be. My mother taught me so much in my first years. She has made me who I am today.

If you had a million dollars, what would you do with it?

If I were handed one million dollars, I would pay for my college education. I would then buy myself a modular, energy efficient home. A new wardrobe might be in order as well. The remainder of the money would be donated to nonprofit organizations that work to rebuild Africa. I would try to make my one million dollars stretch as far as possible.

Final thought

As a freshman, I never really realized the scope of what the FFA was all about. Throughout my past three years, I have tried to be as active as possible. The FFA has given me more than just a good grade and some awards. I now have a ton of confidence I never had before. Thanks FFA, you ROCK!
