Marengo Wins Section 6 Dairy Judging

On Tuesday, April 21st, Marengo FFA brought home 1st place at the Section 6 Contest held at Irwin Dairy Farm in Belvidere. High individuals include Rebecca Riley -2nd place, Grant Fruin -4th place, Dakota Landorf -10th place, Levi Martin -18th place, David Ziller and Katelyn Trader tied for 20th place. Great job to all who participated!

Levi Martin wins Section Livestock Contest

On Saturday, April 11th, Five Marengo FFA members attended the Joliet Junior College Livestock Judging Contest. Levi Martin placed 1st among the Section 6 schools and Rebecca Riley placed 13th. The team took 3rd place out of 11 teams participating from Section 6.

Bryce Rudsinski Wins Carpentry Contest

On Monday, March 9th, Marengo FFA hosted the annual Section 6 Agriculture Mechanics Contest. Nine schools attended the event. Indian Creek placed 1st, Marengo 2nd, and Dekalb 3rd. Bryce Rudsinski took 1st place in Carpentry, Levi Martin 3rd in Ag Power, Mike Proffitt 3rd in Welding, Brent Sheahan 4th in Surveying, and Jon Holmes 4th in Electricity. Great Job to all who participated!

Marengo Toy Show a Success!

This year's show included 44 vendors who displayed and sold toys at this year's show! We had a five year high of 129 tables which filled the high school commons and gave the near 600 paid visitors a great variety to browse. Next year's show will be on January 16th, 2010. Section 6 Agronomy Contest

On Tuesday, November 25th, the Section 6 Agronomy Contest was held at Belvidere High School. Students identified crop seeds and weed plant pictures, judged grain and haylage rings, and took a written agronomy and soils exam. Marengo placed 5th out of 15 teams with Kris Rosemann placing 12th, Steve Stachura 16th, Phil Geisler 26th, Andres Rivera 46th. There were 56 students participating at the contest.

Marengo Attends Dairy Products CDE

On November 13th,  Five Marengo FFA members attended the Dairy Products CDE at Rochelle High School. Students participated in six rings including cheese ID, real vs artificial, off flavors in milk, dairy equipment id, california mastitis test, and a written exam. Jon Holmes placed 1st, Rebecca Riley 5th, Jessie Carr 9th, Amber McCoy 12th, and Lauren Manninen 14th. The team took 2nd place in the section.



Paveloc Donates Pavers and Block for Botanical Garden

Ten MCHS FFA Members Attend National Convention

Colleen Ziller, Russell Rosemann, Ben Henning, Sean Kearney, Katelyn Trader, Levi Martin, Lauren Manninen, Kayce Olbrich, Amber McCoy, and Rebecca Riley attended the 81st National FFA Convention which was held in Indianapolis, IN October 22nd - 25th. Students had the opportunity to hear many guest  speakers and listen to the National FFA Officer's retiring addresses. Other activities include attending the Career Show and the Taylor Swift concert which was held at the brand new Lucas Oil Stadium.  Students also visited the Feline Rescue Center and the Fair Oaks Dairy Farm, both located in Indiana. All in all, everyone learned a lot and had a lot of fun!



Students participate in Section 6 Horticulture CDE

On Thursday, October 16th, 4 MCHS students took time out of their busy Homecoming week schedule to travel to Genoa-Kingston High School for the Horticulture Contest. Andres Rivera took 16th place, Sean Kearney 17th place, Katelyn Trader 18th place, and Jon Holmes finished 19th. The team took 5th place. Students competed in identifying plants, taking a written exam, taking a landscape practicum, and a pest/disease practicum. This is the first time in recent years that MCHS has participated in this contest. Great Job!

FFA Members Prune Trees on Franks Road

The trees along each side of Franks Road leading to the High School got a trimming thanks to 8 FFA members. Russell Rosemann, Jon Holmes, Sam Klick, Brent Sheahan, Brandon Sheahan, Robbie Lippinsky, AJ Lohff, and Fabian Davila helped prune the trees in order for them to grow more uniformly and so they are more appealing visually. Students were able to use the project as preparation for the Horticulture CDE which is scheduled for October 16th at Genoa-Kingston High School.

2008 Land Use CDE

On October 9, 2008, 19 MCHS FFA members traveled to a farm in Kane County near Kaneville. Students competed against 8 other schools from Section 6. The Marengo A team took 4th place out of the 9 schools competing.  Six MCHS students placed in the top 20 including Lauren Manninen - 5th, AJ Lohff - 10th, Mike Proffitt - 14th, Brent Sheahan - 15th, Kris Rosemann - 19th, and Colleen Ziller -20th. Great job to all who participated.



World Dairy Expo Results

On September 30th, Marengo FFA students participated in various events at the World Dairy Expo in Madison, WI. Colleen Ziller took 4th place in the Showmanship Contest. Other highlights include an 11th place finish out of 84 teams in the Dairy Cattle Evaluation. , Levi Martin took 21st place, Danielle Simons took 31st, and David Ziller 186th out of 249 individuals.

The Dairy Products team also had a strong placing when they finished 17th out of 91 teams. Lauren Manninen placed 33rd, Jessie Carr 36th, and Jon Holmes 155th out of 272 individuals. These students identified cheese, off-flavors of milk, and took a written test.

The Forage Cup team consisted of three first-time contestants. Donovan Jones, Phil Geisler, and Andres Rivera participated. Andres scored the high for MCHS, which placed him 43rd out of 146 contestants. Hopefully, all three team members will try out again next year and use their experience to place even higher.

Great job to all participants as they worked hard to prepare for the contests!

Colleen Ziller Takes 4th Place at World Dairy Expo

On September 30th, Colleen Ziller, a senior at MCHS, took home 4th place in the FFA showmanship contest at the World Dairy Expo in Madison,WI. Colleen has developed her skills and knowledge about dairy cattle by her experiences working on her family dairy farm and competition in Dairy Bowl activities.

Marengo FFA places 5th at Horse CDE

On Friday, September 19th, Brittany Poplin, Ariel Camp, Phil Geisler, and Robin Boyd led the A Team to a 5th place finish out of 29 total teams. B Team members consisted of Amanda Knutson, Sean Kearney, Natasha Wilcox, and Rebecca Riley. Great Job to all who participated at the contest which was held in Kirkland and hosted by Hiawatha FFA.

Marengo FFA Gets Online with FFAChapter.net

The Marengo, Illinois High School FFA Chapter became the newest member of the FFAChapter.net family on August 19th, 2008. Advisor Beau Buchs led the effort to put Marengo FFA on the world wide web.

Marengo FFA Plants Botanical Garden

On Saturday, September 20th, Marengo FFA members and parents of FFA members planted a botanical garden at the High School.  The garden is designed using all perennial flowers and plants which were all donated by Hoffie Nursery.  The garden consists of 32 different varieties of plants which will help promote Horticulture and will assist in preparing students for a future career or further education in the industry.  The garden is located on the southwest corner of the school and will be open for anyone to view for education purposes.  The Marengo FFA would like to thank Carsten and Allyson Hoffmeyer, owners of Hoffie Nursery, for their generosity and support! Also, thank you  to Teri Klick and Lynn Rosemann for their help in planting the garden.
