On November 13th, Five Marengo FFA members attended the Dairy Products CDE at Rochelle High School. Students participated in six rings including cheese ID, real vs artificial, off flavors in milk, dairy equipment id, california mastitis test, and a written exam. Jon Holmes placed 1st, Rebecca Riley 5th, Jessie Carr 9th, Amber McCoy 12th, and Lauren Manninen 14th. The team took 2nd place in the section.
Colleen Ziller, Russell Rosemann, Ben Henning, Sean Kearney, Katelyn Trader, Levi Martin, Lauren Manninen, Kayce Olbrich, Amber McCoy, and Rebecca Riley attended the 81st National FFA Convention which was held in Indianapolis, IN October 22nd - 25th. Students had the opportunity to hear many guest speakers and listen to the National FFA Officer's retiring addresses. Other activities include attending the Career Show and the Taylor Swift concert which was held at the brand new Lucas Oil Stadium. Students also visited the Feline Rescue Center and the Fair Oaks Dairy Farm, both located in Indiana. All in all, everyone learned a lot and had a lot of fun!
On October 9, 2008, 19 MCHS FFA members traveled to a farm in Kane County near Kaneville. Students competed against 8 other schools from Section 6. The Marengo A team took 4th place out of the 9 schools competing. Six MCHS students placed in the top 20 including Lauren Manninen - 5th, AJ Lohff - 10th, Mike Proffitt - 14th, Brent Sheahan - 15th, Kris Rosemann - 19th, and Colleen Ziller -20th. Great job to all who participated.
On September 30th, Marengo FFA students participated in various events at the World Dairy Expo in Madison, WI. Colleen Ziller took 4th place in the Showmanship Contest. Other highlights include an 11th place finish out of 84 teams in the Dairy Cattle Evaluation. , Levi Martin took 21st place, Danielle Simons took 31st, and David Ziller 186th out of 249 individuals.
The Dairy Products team also had a strong placing when they finished 17th out of 91 teams. Lauren Manninen placed 33rd, Jessie Carr 36th, and Jon Holmes 155th out of 272 individuals. These students identified cheese, off-flavors of milk, and took a written test.
The Forage Cup team consisted of three first-time contestants. Donovan Jones, Phil Geisler, and Andres Rivera participated. Andres scored the high for MCHS, which placed him 43rd out of 146 contestants. Hopefully, all three team members will try out again next year and use their experience to place even higher.
Great job to all participants as they worked hard to prepare for the contests!
On September 30th, Colleen Ziller, a senior at MCHS, took home 4th place in the FFA showmanship contest at the World Dairy Expo in Madison,WI. Colleen has developed her skills and knowledge about dairy cattle by her experiences working on her family dairy farm and competition in Dairy Bowl activities.
The Marengo, Illinois High School FFA Chapter became the newest member of the FFAChapter.net family on August 19th, 2008. Advisor Beau Buchs led the effort to put Marengo FFA on the world wide web. United States Department of Agriculture

On Saturday, September 20th, Marengo FFA members and parents of FFA members planted a botanical garden at the High School. The garden is designed using all perennial flowers and plants which were all donated by Hoffie Nursery. The garden consists of 32 different varieties of plants which will help promote Horticulture and will assist in preparing students for a future career or further education in the industry. The garden is located on the southwest corner of the school and will be open for anyone to view for education purposes. The Marengo FFA would like to thank Carsten and Allyson Hoffmeyer, owners of Hoffie Nursery, for their generosity and support! Also, thank you to Teri Klick and Lynn Rosemann for their help in planting the garden.
