Kiley Mettendorf-Sales Presentation-placed 4th

As a team we placed 2nd over all in Section 16 and 1st in Section 20!

STAR Conference and Section 20 LTS

Jessica Woods, the Section 20 Vice President, attended the STAR Conference at Lake Land College on September 3. It was conducted by the State President, Clay Zwilling, and the State Vice President, Austin Ashby. It was an all day event and loads of fun!! The Section 20 officer learned a lot and you should expect great things out of them this year!

On September 17, the Section 20 Leadership Training School was held at Charleston. It included officer sessions, a keynote speaker by State Reporter, Ben Arteman, and free ice cream! Members had an awesome time and the Section officers did a really good job pulling it off.

2008 Livestock Fair

The Section 20 Livestock Fair was held at the Effingham County Fairgrounds in Altamont on August 1. Several members of the Stew-Stras Chapter participated. They exhibited sheep, beef cattle, goats, and hogs. All members who went did very well and will hopefully be receiving nice big checks very soon! Congrats on a job well done everyone!!

Stew-Stras has 61 members!

After our membership drive we have 61 total members.  Seniors- 20;  Juniors- 9;  Sophomores-

State Horse Judging for the very first time!

We would like to thank Mr. Gillespey for taking the time to help us and for traveling with us.  The team members included Austin Schultz, Cody Friese, Kiley Mettendorf, and Sara Gillespey.  We did very well for our first trip.  We came home with a 74th place finish.  Cody did very well finishing 38th individual.  We judged various classes including western pleasure, halter, and english equitation.

We were not able to spend the night this year, but this allowed more people to be able to go.  We went three days with different groups of people.  Everyone had a great time!



Section 20 Horse Judging CDE

The Stew-Stras FFA Chapter traveled to Rochin' A Ranch near Charleston on Sept.12 to participate in the Horse Judging CDE. The team tied for 7th place with a score of 831.  Team members and scores were:  Sarah Gillipsey 205; Kaitlin Hinderliter 203: Austin Schultz 195: Cody Friese 192; Josh Baumgarten 192: and Kiley Mettendorf 174.  Our team also scored a 36 on their team test. First place team was Cumberland with a score of 903. 

Beitz Selected To Join National FFA Band

Justin Beitz, son of Larry and Carolyn Beitz has been notified by the National FFA Association to be a member of the national band.  Justin had to audition on June 13, 2007 while performing with the Illinois FFA band.  Justin will travel to Indianapolis 0n Oct. 20 to begin practicing for their performances during the National FFA Convention.

Stew-Stras To Change Sections

The Stew-Stras FFA chapter has been moved out of Section 19 and will now participate in Section20.  Section 20 consists of parts of Shelby,  Effingham, Coles, Cumberland, Jasper, and Clark Counties.  Those schools include Stew-Stras, Beecher City, Altamont, Dieterich, Jasper Co., Oblong, Casey-Westfield, Marshall, Martinsville, Charleston, Mattoon, Neoga, and Cumberland.  

Alecia Wildman Elected Section 20 President

ON JUNE 12TH ALECIA WILDMAN WAS ELECTED TO THE OFFICE OF SECTION 20 FFA PRESIDENT.  ALECIA'S DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BEING RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FFA ACTIVITIES OF SECTION 20.  ALECIA WILL ALSO BE A MEMBER OF THE ILLINOIS FFA STATE OFFICIER TEAM.  ALECIA IS THE DAUGHTER OF MARK AND JEANNE WILDMAN.

Justin Beitz Elected Section 20 Vice-President

JUSTIN BEITZ WAS ELECTED TO THE OFFICE OF SECTION 20 Vice-PRESIDENT.  HE WAS ELECTED ON JUNE 12 DURING THE FIRST DAY OF THE ILLINOIS ASSOCIATION FFA STATE CONVENTION.  JUSTIN IS THE SON OF LARRY AND CAROLYN BEITZ.

The Stewardson-Strasburg FFA Chapter became the newest member of the FFAChapter.net family on July 19th 2007. Advisor Mark Wildman led the effort to put Stew-Stras on the world wide web. Section 20 Reporter's Workshop

Kaitlyn Hinderliter and Katie Pieper attended the Reporter's Workshop on September 10. Bed Arteman was the presenter that night. He talked about keeping newsletters and webpages up to date. He also gave us good tips on how to take good pictures at functions. We were given the idea to give monthly interviews on radio. We learned how to play the Wah game, which was fun.

Stew-Stras takes first place in Greenhand Quizbowl!
