The Midland High School Agriculture Communications Team will be holding a forum for the local community for anyone interested in the local Camp Grove Wind Farms. The forum will be on November 16th at 6:30 P.M. at the Marshall-Putnam Farm Bureau in Henry,IL. Please attend!
The horse judging team has received their scores. They are held first place in State and will now be proceeding to Nationals! Congrats LeRoy, Ashley, Austin! The other participants, Mark, Mallory, Hannah, and Kaliea.

For all members, our first chapter meeting is Tuesday, September 21st. Officer's meeting at 5 and Chapter meeting will begin at 6. We will be having pulled pork, chips and desert! Members please arrive on time. Committee meetings will be held at the meeting. As well as, Ag Issues and Ag Com will have practice prior to the meeting.
The new FFA Meeting format was decided by the officer team at their fall planning meeting. The format will consist of the following at each of the chapter meetings (except Oct, March, & May):

20 students were selected to attend the National FFA Convention. Here they went to leadership workshops, saw guest speakers such as Mike Rowe, and the National Officers. Saw Eli Young band and Toby Keith perform, as well as a rodeo. The members had a great time learning more about the FFA and its members. They made memories and friends.

Good Job to the Ag sales team, who won section and district. All members walked away with a 1st in their areas, the even included a test, and team project, and their areas. The members were Drew Herridge who did customer relations, Cheyenne Kargol host choice, Liz Kohler perspecting for new customers, Coral Johnson who did sales presentations, and Sondra Monier who did sales call. Good Job girls, good luck saturday at state!!
40 students from Chicago came to Midland this week. They were all greeted with a porkchop lunch. The officer team intoduce rual living and central IL agriculture to them. They play triva games, and mock CDE with them. They officers had a great time getting to know they way these kids live to.
This year's Agriculture Extravaganza is open to all third grade students in the Marshall-Putnam County Area. There will be over ten differnent agriculture presentations, varying from a Soil Erosion presentation to "The Treasures of the Counties". Members who have signed up for this event will be both group leaders and teacher's assistants. This will be a great opportunity for members to gain leadership skills within the communty while teaching the younger students about agriculture literacy. If you haven't already be sure to sign up for this even in the Agriculture Room 201, you don't want to miss out on this opportunity!

This year's National FFA Week Activities at Midland were a big success and a lot of fun! Tons of students and members participated in the dress up days throughout the week. The free pork chop meal for members and staff on Tuesday. The first annual Midland FFA Week Breakfast Meeting was on Thursday!
The FFA Week committee and a few officers went to the Jr. High to give an FFA presentation to the 7th and 8th graders onFriday. They encouraged the students to join up by showing them how much fun FFA is!! They played leadership games and showed a slide show full of pictures from the past year, as well as talked about the impact FFA has had on their high school careers so far.
The High School FFA Assembly on Monday was a great way so start the Nationa FFA week.
Overall, it was a great FFA Week, and the entire school had a lot of fun. Thanks again to everyone who participated and showed their Midland FFA pride!!!
The section 5 Lock-in is on March 7th -8th at the Peoria RiverPlex. The lock-in is a fun way to meet members from across the section. At the lock-in members will be playing leadership and teambuilding games along with the members from other schools and section officers. There will also be a few hours of free time to swim, play volleyball, basketball, dodgeball, and many more fun activities.
Please be sure to get a permission slip in the ag room, they are due back on February 26.
Each member of these members have won their area at the Section level and is moving on to District level at Bureau Valley High School on March 18.

There will be an adopt a highway committee meeting durring our October Meeting. It will discuss possible clean up dates. The committee chair Liz Koehler would like to discuss the possiblity of having an after school clean up before our November meeting.

The Midland FFA Chapter Banquet was held on May 13th, 2008 in the gymnasium at the high school. The turn out for the annual event was a huge success- over 40 members and 162 parents and guests attended!!!!! The banquet was a potluck style meal, with each family bringing two dishes to share. After dinner, awards and recognitions were made to the people who have supported us throughout this entire year!
Thank you to everyone who has supported us in our success for 2007-2008! WIthout you, this amazing year would not have been possible!!!!!!!!!!

EIght FFA members helped out with setting up for the "Spring Planting Days" at Three Sister's Park in Chillicothe on Monday, April 28, 2008. During the day, members were able to help organize projects about how farming was done in the year 1918. 7th grade students from all around the community will be able to participate in these activities. Members also had the chance to use real equipment and tools that farmers would've used 90 years ago to plant their land during the springtime. It was a fun and educational morning!

The Poultry team competed at the Section Poultry contest held at the high school on March 13th. The members judged rings on exterior and interior egg grading, carton placing, live bird placing, market bird grading, and patty evaluation. There were four teams at the section contest, and Midland placed first overall! Team members placed individually-

Midland FFA members competed at the Section and Distrcit Ag Sales Contest on Tuesday, March 11th at Blackhawk East College. Team members completed a test and team question before they broke off into their own individual area. The team placed 1st at Section overall and 3rd at District. Team members were:

On Thursday, we lined the back row of the parking lot with pick-up trucks, and a few tractors even showed up on Friday morning for "Drive Your Tractor To School Day".

The High School FFA Assembly on Friday was a great way to end the week. Emily, Chrissy, Michael, and Jay started off with a big thank-you for the school for participating in the activities. Each of the members was then announced and received an FFA power clap while they came down to be recogonized by the entire school. Then, the four officers had a drawing, and two members from each class got a prize of $10 each!! Afterwards, Mr. B recognized all of our state competing teams- Soils (5th), Dairy (2nd), and our State Winning Ag Issues team!! He presented the team with their 1st place plaque as they were recognized by the students and staff!
Overall, it was a great FFA Week, and the entire school had a lot of fun. Thanks again to everyone who participated and showed their Midland FFA pride!!!
The Agriculture Issues team placed 1ST AT THE STATE CONTEST ON SATURDAY FEBRUARY 9TH, 2008 in Macomb, IL at Western Illinois University in Knoblauch Hall!!! Team members presented their issue debate about Wind Farms in Camp Grove and wind energy as a whole. The team is extremely excited that their hard work payed off! Membmers went down to WIU on Friday night to get some extra practice sessions in before the contest, eat some pizza, and then get some "Pep Rally" ice cream. They then competed at 12:15 on Saturday afternoon. After their 15 minute presentation, the team members answered 12 minutes worth of questions on their research, portfolio, opinions, and presentation.
After an extremely long van ride home, the team arrived back at the high school to receive the long-awaited "phone call results" in the form of an email. The team swept past the 9 other teams (2 per District) to finish 1st at the contest!!! CONGRATULATIONS TO THE ENTIRE TEAM for their hard work and dedication, and keep up the good work following up to the National Contest in Indy, IN at National Convention. Make sure to check out the site next October when we annouce them as our National Winners!!!!

The candidates for the Illinois State Degree from our chapter are Michael Giugler, Rachel Giosta, Chrissy Irelan, and Emily Bogner. The members have been working hard on their record books and degree applications. Interviews are on Saturday morning. Wish all the applicants luck!
Members have also been working on their record books for Section Interviews on Saturday the 2nd of February. There are two record book nights to work on your SAE if needed this week on Thursday and Friday night after school. Come down to the Ag Room if you need help!!!
Eight Greenhand members attended the 2008 MFE Conference on January 18th and 19th. Members attended were David Webber, Cody Blunier, Brian Giugler, Mitch Dunphy, Ashley Adams, Liz Koehler, Nikki Kargol, and Sierra Lishman. The Greenhands attended team sessions and a dance on Friday night. All of the members had a great time!!!
On Thursday, November 15th, Midland FFA members participated in the Section 5 Agronomy Contest. Members identified crop seeds, weed seeds, and insect slides as well as judged rings of grain samples. The team placed 6th overall. Members on the team included Ethan Koehler, Tyler McMahan, Cody Blunier, David Webber, Hans Vik, and Dan Scoon.
