Four Seniors Earn Prestigious State FFA Degree

The highest award that you can earn while still in high school through the FFA is the State FFA Degree.  Cashion is fortunate to have four highly qualified FFA members earn this outstanding award.  The recipients are Cody Allen, Austen Evans, Caleb Kimberling, and Lane Welch.  They will receive their plaques at the Oklahoma State FFA Convention on Wednesday night, May 2nd at 6:30pm.  Congratulations to these individuals.

Student Excels at District Speech Contest

Brook Fields placed 4th in the division of Natural Resources at the Northwest District Speech Contest.  The district competition is for those students who placed in the top 2 in their PI group.  Brook placed 2nd at the Kingfisher PI Speech Contest a week earlier.  The district contest was held in Woodward, OK and the top 2 in each division continue on to the State Competition on Friday.  Congrats again to Brook for placing 4th at the hardest district speech contest in the state.

Kingfisher County Fair Results

This fall show season has picked up speed. The Cashion FFA Chapter has attended two shows in the month of August.  First, the Kingfisher P.I. Swine Show and now the Kingfisher County Free Fair.  There were many fun and exciting moments. We had many students show and compete for different events. Caleb Cogburn, Lane Welch, Jacob Pickett, Jessica Male, Caleb Kimberling, Rylee Broadbent, Andrew Perry, Bella Butler, and Jayce Evans attended the Kingfisher County Fair. We started off the Kingfisher County Fair with the cattle shows were Caleb Kimberling showed his Angus Heifer on Friday night. He was second in class. Jayce Evans participated in the bucket calf project and received 1st place for his hard work.   On Saturday morning, Andrew Perry showed his wether goats that received 2nd and 4th in their respective classes.  He also showed a doe goat that was Grand Champion Overall. Saturday evening, the shows were concluded with the swine show.  The show began with the breeding gilt show, where Lane Welch was Champion Spot gilt and Reserve Grand Breeding Gilt. In the Open Market Show, Bella Butler had a class one Poland Gilt that was first place as well as Champion Poland.  Bella also had the Champion Market Crossbred, and was Open Grand Champion Market Barrow. As the junior show began, Jacob Pickett had a Berkshire that was second in class as well as Reserve Berkshire.  Jacob also showed his Hampshire barrow that stood second and Reserve Hampshire.  Finally, he showed his Yorkshire barrow that was second in class. Rylee Broadbent placed 2nd with her Duroc Barrow and received Reserve Duroc.  Rylee also showed a Hampshire that was first and a Crossbred Barrow that was Fourth. Caleb Cogburn placed 3rd with his Crossbred gilt, 3rd with his cross barrow, and 2nd place and Reserve champion with his other crossbred barrow. Jessica Male showed her Crossbred gilt that was second in class. As we finished the show Caleb, Jessica and Jacob showed for showmanship. It was a very tough, and Caleb finished with a second place finish with his Crossbred Barrow. The Cashion FFA chapter would like to thank all the people that helped to put this Kingfisher County Free Fair together. P.I. Show a Success for Cashion FFA

As the summer drew to an end, the Cashion FFA and a few 4-H students participated in the Kingfisher P.I. Swine Show. The Kingfisher P.I. is comprised of Kingfisher, Logan, & Blaine Counties.  This show gave students a chance to practice their showmanship and further work with their animals. This year the show was held in Geary, Oklahoma at the Geary Agriplex. The facilities were air conditioned and were great for keeping the animals cool. The Cashion FFA had three members attend, one 4-H member, and a junior showman attend. They are Caleb Cogburn, Jacob Pickett, Jessica Male, Lane Welch, Rylee Broadbent, and Bella Butler. The show started at ten o'clock am. Jacob Pickett was the first to show with his Berk gilt, where he won his class and Breed Champion Berk. Jacob also had a first place hampshire barrow and second with his yorkshire barrow, which was also reserve champion york. Lane Welch placed third with his spot gilt and third with his hamp gilt. Caleb Cogburn received first place with his york gilt and first place with his cross barrow. Jessica Male had a cross gilt that placed fourth. Rylee Broadbent was second with her duroc barrow, third with her hamp barrow, and was third with her cross barrow. Bella Butler was second with her poland gilt and received first with her crossbred gilt. The Cashion FFA had an outstanding day. We had many successful moments and the showmanship skills were enhanced. The Cashion FFA will be involved in many more activities as school begins. Officers Retreat to the River

This summer has gone by too fast. It seemed like yesterday we were just ending school and ready for all of our summer FFA events. Now we are down to the last and final activity of the summer. It is hard to believe how time flies. The Cashion FFA has been to many events and had many life-changing experiences. To get prepared for the upcoming school year, the Cashion FFA officers had a weekend retreat. It was full of fun and new opportunities to get to know each other a little bit better and to work as a team. This year's officers consist of: Austen Evans, President; Baylee Broadbent, Vice-President; Jay Nail, Secretary; Caleb Cogburn, Treasurer; Brook Fields, Reporter; and Caleb Kimberling, Sentinel. Chaperoning was our advisor and his wife, Chris and Holly Carroll.   Of all the many events we have been to this summer, our officer team could not wait to take this exciting road trip. We left Friday evening for a three hour trip to Lake Tenkiller. We stayed the night at Caleb Cogburn's grandparents lake house. A special thanks to Ron and Dama Butler. Between the scary lake walk and the very competitive Monopoly game, we had a blast.   Saturday morning we had an early start. Mimi and Booboo fixed us a delicious breakfast with Monkey Bread. We got our bags packed and loaded into our suburban, heading for Eagle Bluff Resort and to float the Illinois River.  The officers were more than ready to float the river. For the six officers and two adults, we rented two rafts and decided to float six miles. We floated the river for a total of four hours. The river was not as low as we were anticipating. Whether it was the different fish we saw or the different types of people we saw, we had a fun-filled day with lots of laughter. OSU Big 3 Field Days,Successful & Educational

The Oklahoma State University Big 3 Field Days were held in Stillwater from July 19-21. The Cashion FFA took seven students to compete and learn more about livestock evaluation on sheep, goats, beef cattle, and swine. The Junior FFA team consisted of Caleb Cogburn, Brook Fields, Braden Crawford, and Tessa Adams. The Senior FFA Team consisted of Cody Allen, Austen Evans, and Caleb Kimberling. Big 3 Field Days is sponsored by the Animal Science Department at OSU and the Oklahoma Farm Bureau. The days are educational as we learn more about judging from Dr. Johnson, the OSU Livestock Judging Coach. He and others gave reasons on the official placings to help us understand what to look for at future contests.   The second day was celebrated by a very successful day. Brook Fields of the Junior FFA Team won first place high individual out of 312 contestants. The Junior FFA team was 10th overall on the beef cattle day as well.   The heat was a major factor on the first two days, so on the last day the decision was made to judge the pigs earlier in the morning than in previous years. Although no individual contestant from Cashion had an outstanding day, the Junior FFA Team had a consistent one. In the end, the Cashion Junior FFA Team finished as the 10th place team overall. Brook Fields and Caleb Cogburn also tied for 20th overall junior FFA individual. It was a competitive and education three days. Thanks to Deb Fields for being an additional chaperone. Students Enhance Leadership Skills

The Cashion FFA chapter attended the 39th annual Oklahoma FFA Alumni Leadership Camp. Our Chapter participated in the fourth session at camp Tulakogee near Wagoner, Oklahoma. There were more then 1,600 FFA members all across Oklahoma that where registered to attend one of the four, three and one-half day sessions, July 3 through July 16 including Austen Evans, Caleb Kimberling, Baylee Brodbent, Jay Nail, Kayla Linville, Caleb Cogburn, Brook Fields, and Jacob Picket.   This years camp gave us fun, exciting, action-packed activities. It focused on our communication skills - family, interpersonal, responsible and long lasting. We also got the opportunity to listen to many motivational speakers including Bill Cordes, Sam Glenn, and hypnotist Dr. Al Snyder. Caleb Kimberling and Caleb Cogburn were hypnotized and were hilarious.   This camp is sponsored by the Oklahoma FFA Alumni Association, Oklahoma Ford Dealers, Sonic-America's Drive-In, and Dr.Pepper.   The FFA Leadership camp is planned and conducted by the 2011-2012 state FFA officer team. This team included Courtney Maye, President; Brandon Baumgarten, Secretary; Kaleigh Lynch, Reporter; Andrew Aldridge, Central District Vice-president; Joshua Conaway, Northwest District Vice-president; Justin Turner, Southwest District Vice-president; Kristal Williams, Southeast District Vice-president; and Hannah Nemecek, Northeast District Vice-president.   The FFA and FFA Alumni are part of the Agricultural Education Division within the Oklahoma Career Tech system. The aim of the Oklahoma FFA Alumni Association is to provide a very strong, efficient, statewide organization to promote, serve, and support the Agricultural Education and the FFA. Giving Back To the Community

This summer has gone by too fast for the Cashion FFA Chapter. However, we have saved time to give back to our community. Our Cashion FFA chapter and the Cashion United Methodist church came together to give back to our elderly in the community. The Cashion FFA officers got the opportunity to meet many of the elderly members of our town and to make an impact on their day.   Our goal was to get their day started off right by preparing them breakfast. It was an early start to the morning to ensure they got their breakfast on time. The FFA officers consisting of Austen Evans, Baylee Broadbent, Jay Nail, Caleb Cogburn, Brook Fields, and Caleb Kimberling had the chance to deliver the food. Upon delivering the food, we had the chance to learn just a little bit about them. These individuals welcomed us into their homes and were very appreciative of what we had prepared for them. As officers, we truly made an impact in their lives. A special thanks to Diana Nail for her assistance with this event. Austen Evans & Caleb Kimberling go to Washington D.C.

The Cashion FFA chapter kicked off a fun and exciting summer. There will be numerous FFA Activities this summer. To kick off the summer festivities the FFA sent two members to the Washington Leadership Conference (WLC). The members were Chapter President, Austen Evans and Chapter Sentinel, Caleb Kimberling. Austen Evans received a $500 scholarship from the Oklahoma FFA Alumni Association and a $300 scholarship from the Cashion FFA & 4-H Booster Club. Caleb received a $300 scholarship from the Cashion FFA & 4-H Booster Club as well. Their trip began in Guthrie, where Oklahoma FFA members boarded three different charter buses. Over the next two days, they made their way to Washington, D.C. Each year, FFA members from all over the United States travel to Washington, D.C. to attend WLC. During the five-day event, attendees learn how to become effective leaders by teaching them to know their purpose, value people, take action, and serve others. They where ready to learn leadership skills and to meet new people as well. It provided them with skills for real-life situations as well as to value our freedom. The biggest challenge by the conference was to take action when needing to serve the well-being of others in a positive aspect.  These key points will help with our school and community projects.  They met new friends from all over the United States and strengthened friendships with other Oklahoma members.  They also visited many of the national monuments and statues in our nation's capitol.  WLC has always been a life-changing event to help members take new steps in their lives and to elevate their leadership in their local FFA chapters. Dates to put on your calendar include: July 19-21 - OSU Big 3 Field Days. The 19th will be sheep, the 20th cattle, and the 21st swine will be judged. Kingfisher County Farmhand Olympics

The Kingfisher County Free Fair started yesterday, August 18th with the Farmhand Olympics.  The FFA took 5 teams, 3 teams in the intermediate division and 2 in the senior division.  Congratulations to "The Tribe" who won 1st place in the intermediate division.  The team consisted of Kelsey Daniel, Courtney Maroney, CyLeigh Maroney, and KK Stephenson.  Also, congrats to "The Boss" team who received 3rd place in the senior division.  The team consisted of Caleb Cogburn, Baylee Broadbent, Austen Evans, & Hunter Suntken.  The winners received gift cards to Atwoods in Kingfisher.

Kingfisher PI Swine Show Results

The Kingfisher PI Swine Show was held Friday, August 13th at Crescent at 7pm.  Cashion took 11 pigs and had an excellent day with Reserve Grand Overall, 2 breed champions, and 2 reserve champions.  The results are as follows:

CASHION FFA MEMBER TAKES 3RD AT STATE!

Cade Broadbent placed 3rd at the OSU Interscholastics in the Agribusiness division.  His speech was entitled, "It's All Natural" and was written about Premium Natural Beef which is an all natural beef raised in Hobart, OK for consumption.  It is sold in United and Crest Grocery stores and can be purchased at steakhouses such as The Ranch Steakhouse.  Cade placed in the top 2 at the PI and District level to earn his spot at the Oklahoma FFA State Speech Contest sponsored by Oklahoma State University.

County Schedule of Events

The plan is to start bringing up Sheep Friday night and pigs on Saturday morning at 8am.  Exhibitors that are still playing basketball need to shear and clip around their games.  Sunday we will start moving animals over there at 7am.  All animals have to be on the Kingfisher County Fairgrounds by 3pm on Sunday, February 22.  All animals will be weighed and papers checked at 3pm.  Pigs (barrows then gilts) show starting at 8am on Monday, February 23.  Sheep (wethers then ewes) will show that Monday at 6pm or an hour after the pig show.  Goats (wethers then does) and Cattle (steers then heifers) will show on Tuesday, February 24 with goats starting at 9am and cattle at 3pm or 1 hour after completion of the goat show.   The premium sale will again be a week later and be held on March 2 at 5pm.

American Royal Livestock Show Results

Five students from Cashion attended the American Royal Livestock Show in Kansas City, Missouri.  It was a national show where the cream of the crop goes to win.  Cashion held its' own.  In the market hog show, Rylee Broadbent placed 5th, Cade Broadbent 7th, and Caleb Cogburn 7th.  Hunter Mason also attended.  In the cattle show, Brook Fields placed 7th in the junior show & 6th in the open show.

Top 10 in points attend National Convention

The Top 10 students in points accumulated in a one year period attended the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, IN from October 21-25.  The eight members who attended were Cade Broadbent, Sarah Robinson, Cory Palmer, Melissa Barry, Kelley Marlow, Britt Basler, Austen Evans, and Chambers Clark.  The two chaperones were Vicki Clark and Mr. Carroll.  On the way to Indy, we stopped off at the Arch in St. Louis and went up and saw the sights.  When we got to Indy, we found that our hotel was very nice.  The convention started off with a great opening session.  Later that night, we attended the James Otto and Taylor Swift Concert.  It was unbelievable and well worth it.  The next couple of days we learned about the Ag. Issues contest and watch the national contestants, went to a great haunted house with the New Haven, Kentucky FFA, heard powerful keynote speakers at general sessions, browsed the Career Fair and FFA Mall, watched Mr. Carroll dominate the bowling lanes, and watched the National Parliamentary Procedure Finals to prepare for starting a Senior Parli Pro team.  All in all, it was a great educational and fun trip.  We learned new things and met new people from all across the country.  It was a great experience for all who attended.

Blue and Gold Sausage goes on Sale

Blue and Gold Sausage items will go on sale this Friday Aug. 22nd.  Again, we will have sausage for $6, Bacon for $13, and Chicken for $16.  Contact a local FFA member to buy.  Parents, the orders are due back to Mr. Carroll on Friday, Sept. 5th.  Money is due when sausage is delivered.  Money will be due Sept. 29th.

At the end of October, the top ten FFA members with the most points got the opportunity to go to the 80^th FFA National Convention held in Indianapolis, Indiana.  The members were: Marilyn Adams, Nicole Hoercshgen, Brittany Beutler, Sarah Robinson, Jarrel Kadavy, Tres Basler, Cade Broadbent, Kelley Marlow, Melissa Barry, and Justin Robinson. Shelly Barry and Patricia Beutler came along for the ride as well.  The members enjoyed many visited places: The St. Louis Arch, The Indianapolis 500 Speedway and National Museum, bowling, a haunted warehouse, meeting John Stamos and the Beach Boys, a Beach Boys concert, and a peddler’s mall. But most importantly, the FFA members got to visit the Convention, Career Show, numerous workshops, meet FFA members from all over the country, listen to Henry Winkler or also known as “The Fonz”, and other FFA members share their personal success through the FFA.

On October 30^th, Cashion’s FFA Chapter held its annual blood drive. FFA members present dressed up for Halloween and everyone got to pick out from an OSU or OU T-shirt. The blood drive was a major success as 57 people showed up to give blood!

Cashion FFA T-shirts are for sale. The shirts are $8 for S-XL and $9 for XXL-XXXL.  The shirts are blue with gold writing saying “Life’s a garden, dig it,” famously quoted by Joe Dirt.  If you would like to purchase one, please see an FFA member or contact Mr. Chris Carroll.

The FFA will be having its annual Greenhand and Chapter Degree Ceremony on December 17^th in the cafeteria.  Also, don’t forget the FFA Labor Auction is right around the corner on January 17^th.

The leaves have fallen and the days are growing colder, but it won’t be too long before showing season begins so get ready! Cashion’s annual Achievement Day is scheduled for February 4.

Banquet Ends Successful Year

On May 10, 2007, the Cashion FFA Chapter held their annual Banquet and Appreciation Dinner.  We recognized the many accomplishments of FFA members throughout the year and those who have supported us, this and every year. 

 

The Discovery Recipients were Liz Andrews, Melissa Barry, Cade Broadbent, Caleb Bryan, Colby Bryan, Zach Frame, Cody Freeman, Victoria Lopez, Kelley Marlow, Jake Moore, Toni Murphy, Matt Osgood, Courtney Quast, Justin Robinson, and Jeremy Seaton.  The Star Discovery went to Melissa Barry, Cade Broadbent, Kelley Marlow, and Justin Robinson. 

 

The Greenhand Degree recipients were Tres Basler, Dustin Buckner, Corbin Derr, Jarrel Kadavy, Cory Palmer, Garret Rother, and Collin Willis.  The Star Greenhand was awarded to Tres Basler and Jarrel Kadavy.

 

The Chapter Degree recipients were Megan Adams, Lucas Barry, David Linville, Bobby Lumpkin, Austin Mason, Shea Pletcher, Sarah Robinson, and Drew Wheat.  The Star Farmer was Sarah Robinson. 

 

The Honorary Chapter Degree is awarded to individuals who have supported the FFA in an unbelievable way.  This year’s winners were Bill & Sherry Kordis.

 

Trevin Lawson received the Cashion Booster Club Scholarship and Alicia Kordis received the Butch Eaton Memorial Award.   

 

Finally, the new officers for 2007-2008 were announced.  The Sentinel is Jarrel Kadavy, Reporter is Tres Basler, Treasurer is Brittany Beutler, Secretary is Nicole Hoerschgen, Vice-president is Marilyn Adams, and President is Sarah Robinson.  We look forward to a busy and progressive summer.

2007 State FFA Degree Recipients

The State FFA Degree is the highest honor bestowed on a FFA member by the Oklahoma FFA Association.  Cashion had two members who achieved this prestigious award.  The State FFA Degree is an accumulation of the activities and financial records from the start of their FFA career.  Congratulations to Alicia Kordis and Trevin Lawson.  Both seniors have provided tremendous leadership to the Cashion FFA and have set a great example for work ethic for younger Cashion FFA members.  Thanks Alicia and Trevin.

Cashion Invitational Speech Contest

The Cashion FFA is holding their Invitational Speech Contest on Thursday, April 5th.  There will be Jr. & Sr. Parli. Pro. and all speech divisions.  Parli. Pro. & Extemp registration will be from 3:30-4:30 and both contests will begin at 4:30.  Speech registration is from 4-5 and the contest will begin at 5.  $3 per speaker and $10 per team.  All chapters are invited.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Kingfisher County Livestock Show

The spring Kingfisher County Livestock Show started off with a bang with the goat show.  Victoria Lopez was the only member showing goats and made the sale with the 4th overall wether.  Sheep were next, and all 7 exhibitors from Cashion made the sale.  The exhibitors were Trevin Lawson, Megan Adams, Marilyn Adams, Hannah Davidson, Justin Robinson, Sarah Robinson, and Rachel Robinson.  We had 2 Breed Champions, 2 Reserve Breed Champions, and the 5th & 8th overall wethers.  That made us 8 for 8 heading into the pig show.  The hog show was no different.  14 of 18 swine exhibitors made the sale coupled with 2 Breed Champions and 1 Reserve Breed Champion.  Along with that Cashion had the 4th & 5th overall pigs.  Those making the sale were Austin Mason, Britt Basler, Tres Basler, Brittany Beutler, Jessica Male, Caleb Bryan, Nicole Hoerschgen, Cade Broadbent, Baylee Broadbent, Dustin Buckner, Lucas Barry, Drew Wheat, Hunter Mason, and Braden Mason.  On the last day, we had 1 of 3 exhibitors make the sale with Brook Fields being Reserve Breed Champion & 6th overall.  Cashion Booster Club set the bar, putting in all Cashion exhibitors in at $700 during the premium sale.  Later, money was added to bring all those students making the sale to $850.  Cashion FFA & Cashion FFA & 4-H Booster Club are setting the standard.  Thanks to everyone for their help & suport.

Labor Auction is HUGE success!

The Cashion FFA held their labor auction on Thursday, January 18 at 7pm in the Cashion cafeteria. There were over 130 people in attendance. The event auctioned off 42 members and the advisor. The auction was a huge success. The labor auction raised a grand total of $11,475. The support and buyers were amazing. The FFA served a potato dinner halfway through the auction, which broke up the monotony of the sale. Chance Kordis, former FFA member, mixed high intensity auctioneering with his sense of humor and did an outstanding job. The money will be used in several areas: help students attend Alumni Leadership Camp, Made For Excellence, Advanced Leadership Development, generator, livestock supplies, and repair to trailers. We would like to thank anyone and everyone who helped with the dinner, purchased a student, and those who continually support this program which promotes premier leadership, personal growth, and career success. Thanks again.

CASHION FFA LABOR AUCTION - JAN 18

The Cashion FFA Chapter is bringing back the tradition of the Labor Auction.  This is a huge fundraiser for the Cashion FFA.  The Labor Auction will be held Thursday, January 18 at 6:30 pm in the cafeteria of Cashion High School.  There will be a potato dinner, as well.  The Labor Auction is designed to auction off FFA members for 8 hours of labor.  The highest bidder will receive a hard, honest worker.  The Cashion FFA looks forward to seeing you there.  If you would like to donate but are unable to attend, please contact Chris Carroll at 433-2575.

Cashion FFA Goes to Camp

On July 11, the Cashion FFA sent six members to Alumni Leadership Camp in Wagoner, OK.  The six members were Corbin Derr, Jarrel Kadavy, Cory Palmer, Tres Basler, Marilyn Adams, and Nicole Hoerschgen. 

 

All the members had a ton of fun while they were there.  Everyone got to participate in the ropes course with their respective small groups.  Other activities were swimming, basketball, dodgeball, and volleyball, which got very competitive. 

 

There were tremendous motivational speakers who spoke at camp.  Bill Cordes, the YOGOWYPI man, which means “you only get out what you put in”, was phenomenal.  On the last night, there was a hypnotist that worked his magic on a couple of Cashion kids, Marilyn Adams and Corbin Derr.  Nicole Hoerschgen had the honor of singing the National Anthem at the flag lowering ceremonies.

State Officers Challenge Cashion FFA Members

Thursday, November 9th, was a different day for first and second hour classes at Cashion.  Two of Oklahoma's finest State Officers came to speak and motivate FFA members.  Northwest District Vice-President Jared Crain and State Secretary Lailla Haiji met with students in Mr. Carroll's first two classes.  They informed students of the opportunities in the FFA that they can achieve.  They spoke of the different leadership conferences and Career Development Events, such as public speaking or land judging, that they can participate in.  They were with the students for approximately 30 minutes and then had a question and answer period.  The students thanked them for coming to their class and speaking to them.  The Cashion FFA also gave them our shirts.  They loved our slogan and Lailla knew who Chuck Norris was.  It was a great day and we thank the state officers and Program Specialist Mike Robison for visiting Cashion.
